"how is your Day" Exhibition

23 March - 24 April 2025

how is your Day? warmly invites you to pause and embrace calm amidst the vibrant Hong Kong’s Art Month. Hosted at commaa, this exhibition by renowned Korean illustrator drawingmary brings more than a showcase—it is an invitation to rest, reconnect and reflect.

drawingmary explores the connection between personal experience and creative expression, capturing cheerful moments that reflect the spirit of "Mary." This exhibition marks drawingmary's return to Hong Kong for the second time, shifting focus from Mary to her cherished companions including her pet “Day” and friends, celebrating the companionship and love we share with those dear to us. Each piece serves as a testament to their pure friendship, celebrating the bond that promises many more years of shared joy.

The exhibition also features a special campaign — “A Day with You” with nine commissioned pet portraits – commemorating the intimate relationships between individuals and their beloved companions, inviting audience to become part of the showcase and share their own stories of love and friendship.

The question how is your Day? resonates beyond its simplicity — it is a moment to check in, and a simple phrase that connects individuals while embodying the significance of Day to Mary. It is a heartfelt embrace inviting everyone to feel warmth, care, and well-being as we step into the future. Experience this celebration of art, love, and the bonds that connect us all, finding moments of reflection and joy along the way.

This serene tableau invites viewers to savor the simple joys of companionship and the beauty of shared moments.

The centre piece of the exhibition, "Tea Time with Friends II," captures a heartwarming moment as Mary is joined by two new companions. Surrounded by vibrant petals and tulips in a sun-drenched meadow, the group sits apart yet gazes toward the same horizon, illustrating an invisible bond that unites them. In the foreground, a cat—a rare presence in drawingmary's work—adds a charming touch, inviting viewers to embrace the warmth of friendship and the magic of shared experiences.

Campaign series “A Day with you”

The exhibition also features a special campaign that was launched in February 2025 — “A Day with You” with 9 commissioned pet portraits – commemorating the intimate relationships between individuals and their beloved companions, inviting audience to become part of the showcase – Just like Day to Mary.  This shared narrative transforms the exhibition into a collective space for storytelling, around friendship, warmth and love, where art resonates deeply with every visitor.

Wood Frame series

The Wood Frame series draws inspiration from vintage round wooden photo frames often seen in American and European films. Within these frames, the diverse appearances of Mary, the endearing dog Day, and the charming cat are captured in delightful whimsy. Each furry companion strikes a unique posture that reflects the joy found in life’s simplest pleasures—playfully perched as if stirring a cup of coffee or savouring a warm cup of tea. Their gestures evoke familiarity, as if they are sharing in the ordinary joys of life with us. Together with vibrant flowers and bright imagery, these elements harmonize beautifully with the exhibition, evoking the warmth and joy of spring while fostering a deep emotional connection to the moments they represent.
