Artist drawingmary in the SKECHERS x drawingmary collection

Is there a specific scene or moment you find yourself thinking of most often when you’re drawing?

I’m not entirely sure why, but I often picture Mary and Day sitting on a windy hill or in an open field. My drawings actually feature a lot of moments like that—just sitting still and feeling the breeze. While working on this collaboration, I spent a lot of time imagining what the wind would feel like in that city or what the temperature might be.

When drawing a city, is there anything you find more important than the scenery itself?

I try to soak up the city’s atmosphere as much as I can. While buildings and landmarks represent a city, I think it’s ultimately the people who create the vibe. That’s why I tend to focus on the people I pass by, how they gather together, and the everyday look of the local shops.

SKECHERS X drawingmary: The Singapore Edition

Did it feel different to create art that is "worn" rather than kept on a canvas?

It felt very new because, unlike a canvas, the art isn't fixed—it moves with the person and looks different depending on who’s wearing it. I also love the idea that someone can "own" a piece of art in such a direct, personal way. That part was really interesting.

If you could describe this collection in one phrase, what would it be?

I’d say, "A City We Walk Together." Throughout this project, I kept imagining people wearing these T-shirts while going about their lives and walking through their own cities comfortably. That image really captures what this collection is about.

From your perspective, what is the biggest draw of this collection and why do you recommend it?

I think the best part is the comfort. I hope the relaxed feel of a T-shirt, combined with the bright, healing mood of the illustrations, naturally reaches the people who wear them.

Tote Bag Detail: Six cities in one

When you first encountered the six national flowers selected by Skechers, how did you try to reinterpret them in your own style?

Rather than just drawing flowers, I wanted to capture their vitality and bright energy. So, I tried to keep the overall vibe warm and lighthearted, imagining Merry and Day hanging out with each flower as if they were old friends.

With this being a global launch, what kind of connection do you hope people feel when they see the flowers from their own home countries?

To be honest, a lot of these flowers were new to me! Through this project, I hope local audience feel that nice sense of familiarity when they see their national flower, but also get a bit of a spark—a fresh sense of joy—from seeing it reinterpreted through a different lens.

Did this brand collaboration give you any new inspiration for your future work or the direction you want to take?

Although Merry and Day have always been characters that coexist with nature, this was almost the first time I expressed flowers directly as a central theme. It made me think alot more about their shapes, symbolism, and ways to capture the emotions held by flowers. Moving forward, I want to actively incorporate various elements of the seasons, plants, and nature into my work. I believe this collaboration was a great stepping stone to expanding Merry and Day’s world.
